Field Study

Until 2021, we took part in a three-year field study on UV markings, together with several other participants. As far as it concerns our birdsticker, you can download our excerpt from this field study. The excerpt on birdsticker has now been approved and was published here for the first time on 09/14/2026.

Our conclusion on the three-year field study

Statement and scientific assessment on the topic of bird strikes against glass

After three years of intensive research, the final result of the field study is now available. Our most important conclusion up front: A misjudgment rate of only 13% is an excellent trend for a trial under real outdoor conditions.

Even though the targeted number of participants may not have been reached according to strict formal requirements, the result shows a clear and reliable direction. It is particularly worth highlighting that these values were achieved without artificial light sources or other simulated laboratory conditions, as are often used in tunnel trials. The study reflects pure reality.

From 70% to 87% Protective Effect: Scientifically Confirmed

Until now, we assumed a protective effect, or avoidance rate, of 70%. The study result raises this value to 87% avoidance.

An enormously important milestone, determined on a scientific basis. It confirms exactly what customers and sales partners have long been reporting back to us from practical experience – there, the perceived protection rates are often even close to 100%.

An interesting aspect for future studies would also be the use of wildlife cameras: this way it could be observed how many birds already perceive the protected areas in advance due to the warning effect and do not even attempt to fly at them. This could increase the actual avoidance rate even further.

Realism in the Debate: Putting Protection Rates into Perspective

Complete avoidance will not be achievable. In practice this is simply impossible, since we can never know all the individual factors that lead to a bird strike in a given case.

Here it helps to look at our own coexistence as humans:

  • Can we humans always protect every single person from all dangers, or always make everything accessible?
  • Even among ourselves, complete coverage fails in everyday life – be it in barrier-free access in all areas of life, or in the accessibility of goods in the supermarket for wheelchair users.

Even without glass surfaces, birds have accidents: they fly into ordinary, non-reflective walls – for example when the sun is low, or due to other environmental stimuli that we cannot fully grasp in detail.

Advantages of Our Product at a Glance:

  • Undisturbed view: Effective against bird strikes with nearly unrestricted light transmission and a clear view outside.
  • Easy installation (DIY): Easy to apply even for beginners – with no prior knowledge or expensive professional installation needed.
  • Everyday-friendly maintenance: Window cleaning as usual with a squeegee is possible. (Tip: do not use microfiber cloths in the area of the birdstickers)
  • Needs-based and flexible: Start with our recommended arrangement and/or adjust the protection at any time as needed.
  • Durable and cost-effective: Sustainable protection for people and nature with an excellent price-performance ratio.

Our Appeal: Let's Act Together!

By their nature, field studies can reveal trends – and this trend is overwhelmingly positive for our product. Our position on the entire topic of bird protection on glass is clear:

Let's all work on this together! The various protection systems – whether visibly decorative or in the UV range – cannot replace each other, but can meaningfully complement one another.

We have made it our mission to protect birds as effectively as possible. That is why we provide manufacturer-independent advice, in the interest of the cause: if our own product does not promise the desired success in a specific construction situation, in our view, we say so openly and refer to fully visible protection products.

It is solely and exclusively about protecting the birds.

"Whoever helps birds is right."

― In reference to Dr. Buer †, advocate of the spider-web effect

With that in mind: let's pragmatically use all effective options available to reduce bird strikes effectively!
